Protect yourself and others by staying vigilant, asking for help, and becoming educated on elder abuse.

As a senior, you should:

  • Create a network of supportive friends, family, and care providers who you can call upon when needed
  • Become involved in your community and stay connected through community programs and resources available to seniors. This could be through a community centre, a club, or outreach services.
  • Do your best to stay healthy and keep up with medical appointments so you remain well
  • Educate yourself and know your legal rights
  • Choose a trusted Power of Attorney who will act in your best interest
  • Become educated and help raise social awareness of elder abuse

As a caregiver, you should:

  •  Support your loved one to the best of your abilities and seek help when you need it
  • Become educated on the community programs and services readily available to you through local organizations
  • Your health is just as important as the person whom you’re caring for. Take care of yourself by eating well and making time to do the things you love
  • Adopt stress reduction strategies through recreational activities, art, and counselling support
  • Become educated and help raise social awareness of elder abuse

As a community member, you should:

  • Take the time to become educated on elder abuse, and help raise awareness within your community
